A Whimsical Microwedding: Pastel Garden Party Meets Dog-Friendly Fun at Hazelwood

This charming microwedding, held at one of my all-time favorite venues—Hazelwood—was a day filled with personal touches, pastel florals, and a whole lot of love. The couple tied the knot on the bride’s birthday, while their dog, Soju, celebrated his own birthday the day before. In a heartwarming tribute, they had a dog-friendly cake with Soju’s face on it—because what’s a celebration without including your goodest boy?

The florals for this wedding were locally sourced from some of our favorite flower farms: Rock and River, Triple Springs Farm, and Riverside. As all of our couples know, sustainability is a cornerstone of how we design florals in this neck of the woods. The couple wanted a pastel garden party vibe but also made it clear that they wanted some pops of color. To make sure we nailed their vision, we chose light and airy blooms like tweedia, campanula, feverfew, and butterfly ranunculus, all paired with grounded florals like peonies and garden roses. This blend gave the wedding that perfect balance of soft pastels with vibrant, eye-catching color hues, too.

A month before the wedding, the couple decided to incorporate a full meadow aisle—a decision inspired by the Hershey Garden wedding we designed a year prior. Despite the short timeline, we pulled it off beautifully- what our people want, our people get! The meadow aisle created an intimate, romantic feel for the ceremony, and afterward, all the floral decor was repurposed inside the reception area, adorning the sweetheart table, cake table, and even the guest tables.

Hazelwood was the perfect backdrop for this microwedding, and being close friends with Kate and Adam, the passionate owners of the venue, made the day even more special for us. We were all as excited for the wedding as the couple was! The low guest count allowed the couple to focus on the details, and with no wedding party, the day remained chill, fun, and wrapped up by 8 PM—perfect for a relaxed, unforgettable celebration!
